XV Regional Fair of the Canary Islands 'Alma de Medianías'
Details
🌿 🧺 The Association of Municipalities of the Medianías of Gran Canaria is finalizing preparations for the 15th Canary Islands Regional Fair “Alma de Medianías”, which will be held on October 31 and November 1 in the urban center of Valsequillo, the host municipality of this traveling event that brings together producers, artisans and professionals linked to the primary sector and the rural environment. The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, presented this new edition together with the president of the Association of Municipalities of the Medianías of Gran Canaria and mayor of Santa Brígida, José Armengol; the mayor of Valsequillo, Juan Carlos Hernández Atta; and the island councilor Miguel Hidalgo. Also in attendance were the mayor of San Mateo, Davinia Falcón, and the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, among other institutional representatives. 🗣️ During the presentation, Antonio Morales highlighted the value of a fair that represents “our way of understanding the territory, the landscape, and the identity of Gran Canaria.” The island president gave as an example of the progress of local production the importance of the island’s primary sector, which, as he pointed out, currently produces 62% of the potatoes it consumes, 90% of the eggs, and nearly 40% of seasonal fruit. He linked this progress to collaboration between public administrations, producers, marketing channels, and a citizenry that is increasingly committed to consuming local products. 🗣️ For his part, José Armengol stressed that the aim of the fair goes far beyond gastronomic promotion. “It is not just about highlighting the products as a gastronomic tasting, but also the people behind them, the men and women who make it possible to keep our territory and our medianías alive,” he stated. The president of the Association also presented “Alma de Medianías” as a showcase for the quality of local productions and as a defense of the landscape and agricultural culture of the medianías and the mountain areas.
