The overture to La forza del destino, by Verdi, sets to music the weight of destiny that gives the concert its title, and the closing piece is the 1919 Suite from The Firebird, by Stravinsky, a brilliant summary of the ballet that culminates in a climate of celebration and the definitive triumph of light.
