LIKE Project Training Session for Youth Suicide Prevention
Details
Yesterday we took the first step in a life‑saving project: LIKE has begun. The mental health of our young people is not a taboo, it is a priority. That is why, from the Department of Physical Activity, Sports and Youth of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Town Council (in collaboration with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, First Vice-Presidency and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing), we have launched the LIKE Project. What is the goal? To provide our sports clubs, leisure leaders and youth facilitators with the tools they need for the prevention of and awareness about youth suicide. We want every training session and every youth space to be a safe environment, with active listening and support. Yesterday, Monday 25 May, we held the first training session at the Municipal Offices. But this is only the beginning! The programme will continue on Mondays 15, 22 and 29 June, and on 6 July. What else is coming in LIKE? - Creation of a song and music video with the young people of the municipality. - Awareness videos with leading artists and athletes from the island. - And the grand finale: on 9 July we will close with an outstanding talk by professional swimmer David Meca, speaking about overcoming adversity and resilience. Caring for our own is everyone’s responsibility. If you work with young people or are part of a club, this project is for you! #SienteElMovimiento #OtraMirada
