French Fantasy – Gran Canaria Philharmonic Subscription Concert 9
Details
The cellist Bruno Delepelaire, principal of the Berlin Philharmonic, joins Mikko Franck in a program dedicated to the refinement and timbral richness of French music. Alongside Lalo’s Cello Concerto, the evening includes two masterpieces by Ravel: Mother Goose and Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé, a dazzling example of his orchestral art. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Bruno Delepelaire, principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic, joins a concert conceived by Mikko Franck as an immersion in the color and sensuality of French music. Delepelaire performs Lalo’s Cello Concerto, a work that adds an eloquent romantic vein and touches reflecting the Spanish heritage of the French composer to its demanding technical requirements. Ravel’s genius will be represented by two pieces that show two facets of his art: the intimate precision of miniature in the children’s tales of Mother Goose, contrasted with the orchestral splendor of Suite No. 2 from the ballet Daphnis et Chloé, a compendium of the most beautiful moments from this score, which Ravel himself defined as a “choreographic symphony,” drawing us in from the intoxicating lyricism of the Dawn to the apotheotic conclusion of the General Dance. Lalo, Cello Concerto Ravel, Mother Goose Ravel, Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2
