The Government of the Canary Islands updated the weather situation this Wednesday and raised the activation level throughout the archipelago to an alert for maximum temperatures. The measure will come into force at 11:00 a.m. this Thursday, July 30, due to the forecast of a period of intense and persistent heat that will affect the islands over the coming days. In view of this situation, and with the aim of avoiding the hottest hours and ensuring the well-being and safety of residents and visitors, the Town Council and the Festival Committee have agreed to delay by one hour the start of the Offering-Pilgrimage in honor of Santa Brígida, which will now set off on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Weather forecasts point to temperatures equal to or higher than 38 degrees in inland areas and mid-altitude zones facing south and west of Gran Canaria at the beginning of the weekend. Likewise, the regional government has declared an alert for the risk of forest fires in Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and in the areas of Gran Canaria located above 400 meters in altitude, due to the combination of high temperatures, low humidity, and weather conditions that favor the rapid spread of fire.
