Oedipus in Ezeiza (Uruguay)
Details
In the fragmented remains of a national landscape that changes at every moment, a family undergoes fierce interrogations in order to uncover the disguised traitor, the infiltrated enemy. More than a meter away, nothing can be seen. The father, the mother and the son are incomplete, aphasic versions of a collective project that has been frustrated. Since the Ezeiza picnic, family identities have been upended and it is no longer possible to assert a common cause or a shared direction. The family’s collective madness becomes naturalized while two of its members are put under scrutiny beneath a sky-blue-and-white cloak, presenting the idea of a national symbol that has been groped, abused, and that still covers and stifles us. The struggle continues by other means on an indescribable plane of reality. The play constantly reflects on social persecution deeply rooted within families. It questions everything, creating enemies and dangers that keep people locked up, fearful, and prisoners of delusion and harassment. Around this, it does not speak of material dispossession, but of something much more personal and human: identity. A committed and intelligent theatre piece that centers the drama on a family searching for answers while sinking into deceit, inviting the audience to find their own meaning. An atmosphere of confusion that mirrors the complexity of the cultural reality in which we currently live.
