Luz Casal – Me voy a permitir
Details
Luz Casal presents in Gran Canaria, on the 20th anniversary of Festival Mar Abierto, her new album 'Me voy a permitir' Luz Casal will present her new album ‘Me voy a permitir’ on June 7, 2026, at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, the most eclectic and unclassifiable work of her career. She indulges herself by showing ten faces, as many as there are songs: ten attitudes, ten gazes, ten ways of understanding the world. She moves with the freedom of someone who no longer has to prove anything. She lays her cards on the table as a grande dame of French chanson and a contemporary voice of the Latin American songbook. As a chronicler of everyday life and a rock singer who never hung up her leather pants. Pablo Guerrero already warned us: Luz can caress like silk or tear like the fangs of a wounded animal. Capable of singing from spite or from hope, roguish or radiant, always utterly free. This new show is a bridge between past and future; it confirms her dual status as an intuitive and gifted songwriter and an exceptional performer, capable not only of singing but of inhabiting the songs, whether they are hers or by others. Uninterested in pyrotechnics and artifice, she allows herself to follow no signals other than those of her own instinct, a freedom that has earned her the admiration of the public, the respect of critics and the complicity of her peers, a threefold recognition that occurs only on rare occasions. Tickets are already on sale on the auditorium’s own website and on the event website www.festivalmarabierto.com A life of ‘Luz’ Luz Casal grew up in a family of musicians, which influenced her passion for music from an early age. At 12, she began studying classical guitar at the conservatory in La Coruña, where she also developed her vocal skills. At 16 she formed her first band, "Los Flechazos". With this group, Luz began playing in venues in Oviedo and Gijón, and making a name for herself on the Asturian music scene. In 1977, Luz moved to Madrid to pursue her musical career. In the Spanish capital, Luz began working as a backing singer for various artists, including Juan Pardo and Miguel Ríos. She also began recording demos and attending auditions. Luz Casal’s debut album, "Luz", was released in 1982 and marked the beginning of a successful career. Her deep, emotional voice became her hallmark, and tracks such as "Rufino" and "La noche más larga" resonated with audiences. However, it was her album "Piensa en mí" (1987) that catapulted her to fame. The song that gave the album its title, a melancholic and passionate ballad, became a massive hit and an anthem in her career. This album consolidated her as one of the most important voices in Spanish music. In the following years, Luz Casal released a series of successful albums, including "A contraluz" (1991), "Como la flor prometida" (1995) and "Un mar de confianza" (1999). Her songs often dealt with themes of love, heartbreak and hope, and her passionate interpretations made them deeply moving. As her career progressed, Luz Casal continued releasing successful albums and touring all over the world. One of her most notable albums of the 2000s was "La pasión" (2009), which included songs inspired by poems by Federico García Lorca. This album showcased her versatility as an artist, combining flamenco elements with her signature style. In 2011, after overcoming cancer, Luz embarked on an international tour that took her to stages across half the world, from Beijing to Montreal. In recent years, Luz has continued her musical career successfully. In 2016, she released her album "Como la Flor" (Remastered), a reissue of her 1992 album. In 2018 she released the album "Que corra el aire", which was well received by critics and fans. In 2022, Luz released her first live album, 'Solo esta noche', recorded in the Plaza del Obradoiro in Santiago de Compostela with more than fifty musicians from the Real Filarmónica de Galicia. Luz released a new album in March 2023, a work recorded at La Casa Murada and produced by Paco Salazar, Paco Trinidad and herself. Her mature voice and her ability to convey emotions continue to be her greatest asset.
