Closing Conference of the LIKE Project with Swimmer David Meca
Details
Yesterday we took the first step in a life‑saving project: LIKE has begun. The mental health of our young people is not a taboo subject, it is a priority. That is why, from the Department of Physical Activity, Sports and Youth of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Town Council (in collaboration with the Island Council of Gran Canaria, First Vice-Presidency and Department of Public Works and Housing), we have launched the LIKE Project. What is the goal? To equip our sports clubs, leisure leaders and youth workers with the tools they need for the prevention of and awareness-raising about youth suicide. We want every training session and every youth space to be a safe environment, with active listening and support. Yesterday, Monday 25 May, we held the first training session at the Municipal Offices. But this is just the beginning! The programme will continue on Mondays 15, 22 and 29 June, and on 6 July. What else is coming in LIKE? - Creation of a song and music video with young people from the municipality. - Awareness-raising videos with leading artists and athletes from the island. - And the grand finale: on 9 July we will close with an inspiring conference by professional swimmer David Meca, speaking about overcoming adversity and resilience. Looking after our own is everyone’s responsibility. If you work with young people or are part of a club, this project is for you!
