🎶 The Santa Brígida Library, which depends on the Department of Culture, will host next Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m., a folk music recital by the musician, linguist and academic resident of the municipality, David Shaun Shea. It is a deep-rooted sonic journey through the guitar, ukulele and timple, whose repertoire will seek to build bridges between the Anglo-Saxon folk tradition, popular melodies and the acoustic sound of Canarian folklore. Musician and Doctor in Linguistics, David Shea is not only a virtuoso performer of roots music, but also a figure with a notable academic career closely linked to the municipality of Santa Brígida, where he lives. Born in Greenfield (Massachusetts, USA), his roots in the Canary Islands culminated in the attainment of a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. As a career civil servant, teacher (working, among other institutions, at the Santa Brígida Official School of Languages and the ULPGC) and translator, Shea combines his linguistic and research work with an unwavering devotion to popular music. During the concert, David Shea will alternate sung and instrumental pieces with educational explanations and stories about the origins of the songs, the evolution of roots music, and the blending of Atlantic sounds. The inclusion of the timple in his proposal is a special tribute to the island’s musical heritage that has welcomed him for decades. 🗣️ “Folk music is a universal language that connects human stories and shared emotions. To offer this acoustic concert at the Santa Brígida Municipal Library, surrounded by books and my neighbors, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate living culture,” says the artist himself. Admission is free.
