Trumpeter and composer Ernesto Montenegro (Gran Canaria, 1999) presents to the public his first album as a bandleader, “Prelude to Now”. Through a completely original repertoire, and an aesthetic and sound that combine strength and vulnerability, Montenegro reflects special memories of his life in his native Firgas and in the city that currently hosts him, Amsterdam. With pieces deeply inspired by African American music, Montenegro seeks to portray his own experience musically in “Prelude to Now”, while drawing inspiration from the stories that shape his identity. Ernesto Montenegro is joined by a quintet made up of musicians of various nationalities (the Netherlands, Venezuela, Catalonia and Galicia), all of them based in Amsterdam and established in the Dutch music scene.
