La España Imaginada proposes a journey through the musical image of Spain via the guitar and works by both Spanish and international composers. José María Gallardo del Rey performs the famous Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo and his own work “Diamantes para Aranjuez”. The programme is completed by Turina’s Sinfonía Sevillana and Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, both deeply connected to the Spanish musical imagination. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Spain seen through the guitar and also through the eyes of those who found in its music, its rhythms and its folklore a powerful source of inspiration. That is the thread of La España Imaginada, a programme in which José María Gallardo del Rey performs Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, one of the most recognisable works in the Spanish repertoire for guitar and orchestra. Next, Gallardo del Rey himself presents “Diamantes para Aranjuez”, conceived as a tribute and a response to Rodrigo’s famous score. Under the baton of Oliver Díaz, the programme is completed with Joaquín Turina’s Sinfonía Sevillana, marked by its Andalusian character, and Maurice Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, a brilliant and stylised evocation of Spanish folklore as seen through the eyes of the French composer.
