Lost Poet in New York
Details
One year before commemorating the centenary of the Generation of '27, Poeta (perdido) en Nueva York arrives at the Teatro Pérez Galdós, a journey into the most personal side of Federico García Lorca, with carefully crafted dramaturgy and a powerful staging, which went on to win the 2026 Max Award for Best Private Production. A post shared by Festival Nacional de Teatro “Vegas Bajas” Poeta (perdido) en Nueva York is a theatrical adaptation that combines Lorca’s poetry collection and the letters he sent to his family from New York. Federico travels to the Big City in search of the peace he cannot find in Madrid, but he crashes into the New York of the Crash of ’29. The dehumanization and depression he finds on the other side of the ocean flood his poetry and change it forever. Through his poetry and letters, we will get to know the most intimate and human Federico, the young man who travels to a great metropolis to lose himself and to find himself. Poems such as The King of Harlem, City That Does Not Sleep, or the Ode to Walt Whitman are combined with others like Diván del Tamarit, his letters, and works such as The Public, to bring Lorca’s poetry closer to young and adult audiences in an impressive staging.
