REST in Peace: Learn GraphQL and Stop Using REST
Details
🎟️ Level: Developer with coding experience 💻 Requirements: laptop with Git and Node.js 24 or higher ✨ Tired of fighting with multiple endpoints, over‑fetching and under‑fetching? Come and discover GraphQL in a hands‑on workshop where we’ll build a real app and you’ll understand why, once you try GraphQL, REST will be left far behind. 💀 Mario Ferrero Fernández has been working with GraphQL for more than 3 years. What started as just another technology in his stack has become a fundamental part of his day‑to‑day work and his main stack, both for prototypes and for more developed ideas. He has recently created a Chrome extension that helps both him and his coworkers get the most out of this technology. 🚀 What will we do? 🔹 A brief 10‑minute introduction to understand what GraphQL brings to the table and why it’s changing the way we build APIs. 🔹 Practical workshop: we’ll build an app, choosing between a Twitter clone or a Netflix clone. You decide whether you want to go down the backend or frontend route. ⚓ Backend: you’ll start from a template in Node.js. ⚓ Frontend: you’ll have a prepared API with some endpoints to build a couple of views. 🔗 At the end of the workshop, we’ll connect two projects (one backend and one frontend) and compare how each person has tackled the problem. 🎯 During the process we’ll cover the key aspects of a GraphQL API: relationships between entities, response filtering, sorting, resource creation, file uploads and authentication. 😎 Speaker: Mario Ferrero Fernández — Engineering Team Lead at Alten / Airbus 📅 Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026 ⏰ Time: 09:00 to 16:00 📍 Location: Av. de la Feria 1, CDTIC - SPEGC space 🎟️ Free admission — limited seats 🤝 Thanks to our collaborators: This event would not be possible without the support of those who back the tech community and shared learning: ✨ SPEGC Don’t miss it!
