In the 2012 edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, the cycle "The Moderns" was programmed. It was an approach to avant-garde cinematographic art prior to the introduction of sound, conceived by our colleague Francisco Ponce. We now propose to complete that milestone with nine films made between 1929 and 1934, selected by Luis Miranda, the festival director. THE BLUE ANGEL (Der blaue Engel) Germany, 1930, 109´ DIRECTOR: Erich Von Sternberg SCREENPLAY: Carl Zuckmayer, Karl Vollmuller, Robert Liebmann. Novel: Heinrich Mann PRODUCTION: Erich Pommer CINEMATOGRAPHY: Günther Rittau, Hans Schneeberger (B&W) EDITING: Walter Klee MUSIC: Friedrich Hollaender CAST: Emil Jannings, Marlene Dietrich, Kurt Gerron, Rosa Valetti, Hans Albers, Reinhold Bernt, Eduard von Winterstein. SYNOPSIS: It tells the tragedy of a strict professor who one night goes to "The Blue Angel", a seedy cabaret, to take away his students, who frequent the place seduced by the charms of the singer Lola-Lola. However, Professor Rath, a 50-year-old bachelor, ends up falling into the cabaret singer’s net. In collaboration with the DISA Foundation
