Wise Ones, Guides and Interpreters
Details
Sabios, Guides and Interpreters, the new project of the Department for Senior Citizens that is coming to San Mateo The Department for Senior Citizens of the Vega de San Mateo Town Council is launching an exciting new project that turns our older residents into the best ambassadors of the history, traditions and living memory of the municipality. Sabios, Guides and Interpreters is born with the aim that all those older people who wish to do so can become true guides of our town, sharing their experiences, anecdotes, memories and knowledge with other visiting senior groups, schoolchildren and associations that will take part in the activities organised by the Department for Senior Citizens and the Department of Tourism. The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Senior Citizens, José Déniz, stresses that "no one can tell the story of San Mateo better than those who have lived it first hand" and encourages all older residents of the municipality to join this initiative, which will take place every Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Senior Citizens' Club. In addition, a first practical experience of a guided route is already planned for this very month, which will be announced shortly. With this project, the aim is to rescue and preserve the oral heritage of Vega de San Mateo, encouraging older people themselves to pass on the history, customs and identity of the municipality directly to the younger generations. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Lidia García Foundation, an organisation with which the Town Council is also working on the Active and Healthy Mornings project, thus strengthening the shared commitment to active ageing, social participation and intergenerational exchange.
