From the Equality and Gender Violence Service of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the program Espejos y Ventanas (Mirrors and Windows) is being launched. It is a conscious photography project in nature, aimed at women on the island and led by a photographer and a psychologist. For one week they meet to photograph, with their own mobile phones, different natural landscapes on the island. By choosing what to photograph and how to do it, each woman ends up talking about herself, and the images become the starting point for conversation, self-discovery and recognizing themselves in others. A psychologist accompanies the group in all the sessions. WHO IT IS FOR The program is aimed at women residing in Gran Canaria, of any age, origin or background. The diversity of the group is an essential part of the experience, which seeks to bring together women who would hardly meet in their everyday lives. No photography knowledge is required. To ensure that the experience is beneficial, it is designed for women who: - Are autonomous enough to walk through natural environments. The routes are easy, but the terrain is uneven and the places are not adapted for people with reduced mobility. - Can express themselves in Spanish with enough fluency to share emotions and personal experiences, since a large part of the activity consists of talking about what has been experienced. - If they have lived through situations of gender-based violence, are in a recovery phase and not in a moment of crisis, so that they can go through the process with emotional availability. WHAT A WEEK IS LIKE Each group takes part in five consecutive sessions, from Monday to Friday, in the morning. Each session builds on the previous one and the group is built day by day, which is why it is necessary to attend all five. The sessions follow a path that goes from the simple to the profound: The Threshold, The Metaphor, The Window, The Mirror and The Story, the latter dedicated to jointly creating a shared narrative using the group’s photographs. Each day takes place in a different natural landscape of Gran Canaria. More information on our Facebook or at www.agaete.es
