Lucía Rey Quartet
Details
The El Rincón del Jazz series at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus welcomes pianist and composer Lucía Rey, one of the most personal and creative voices in contemporary Spanish jazz. Trained between Madrid, Cuba and New York, she has developed a solid career as a performer, composer and musical director, collaborating on major musical, theatrical and cultural projects. On this occasion she presents Nómadas (2024), a work that reflects the breadth of her influences and her distinctive artistic vision. Through a language that integrates modern jazz, flamenco, classical music, Mediterranean folklore and subtle electronic textures, Lucía Rey builds a sound universe full of nuance and individuality. On stage she will be accompanied by Michael Olivera (drums), Ander García (double bass) and Juan Carlos Aracil (flute), in a proposal that combines virtuosity, sensitivity and creative freedom. It is a new opportunity to discover, at El Rincón del Jazz, some of the most innovative and suggestive proposals on today’s jazz scene. Lucía Rey is a pianist, composer and musical director, trained at the Royal Higher Conservatory of Music of Madrid and later specializing in modern music and jazz. Her training was enriched by stays in Cuba and New York thanks to a specialization grant in Latin Piano and Jazz, which allowed her to study at leading institutions such as the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and The Collective School of Music, where she worked with prominent teachers and shared the stage with musicians from the New York scene. Throughout her career she has developed intense artistic activity both in the field of jazz and in other musical genres. She has collaborated with artists such as Antonio Serrano, Celia Mur, Sole Giménez and Cuban singer Eme Alfonso, and has taken part in national and international projects of great stylistic diversity. Her versatility has also led her to work as a pianist, keyboardist and assistant musical director in renowned musicals on Madrid’s Gran Vía, as well as in major stage productions and cultural events alongside leading artists on the Spanish scene. As leader of her own project, the Lucía Rey Trío, she has established herself as one of the most interesting figures in contemporary Spanish jazz. Since the release of her first album, Reflexion, she has performed at some of the main festivals and specialized concert series in Spain, while also beginning to build a growing international profile with performances in Europe and Latin America. Her most recent work, Nómadas (2024), represents a new creative phase in which she explores a sound universe that brings together contemporary jazz, Mediterranean music, flamenco and electronic elements. Together with Michael Olivera (drums) and Ander García (double bass), and with the collaboration of musicians such as Jorge Pardo and Juan Carlos Aracil, she creates a proposal of great timbral richness and artistic personality. At the same time, she is carrying out notable work as a composer, arranger and musical director in cultural projects for institutions such as the Prado Museum, the Teatros del Canal and the José Saramago Foundation, consolidating a career marked by the constant search for new languages and spaces for creation.
