The Santa Brígida City Council, through the Department of Culture headed by Avelina Fernández Manrique de Lara, invites the public to the concert “Si el aire suspira,” a proposal by the ensemble Capilla de Santa Anna, focused on the recovery and performance of the musical legacy of Diego Durón Ortega (1653–1731), one of the most important composers in the history of the Canary Islands. The evening will take place this Wednesday, 15 July, at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of Santa Brígida. The recital, with free admission, will offer a selection of Baroque compositions written by Durón during his time as chapel master of the Cathedral of Santa Ana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. These works form part of the valuable heritage preserved in the Cathedral Archive and have been brought back to life to return to the public a repertoire that for centuries remained confined to the liturgical sphere. Diego Durón The figure of Diego Durón occupies a prominent place in the musical history of the Archipelago. Chapel master of the Cathedral of Santa Ana for more than half a century, he developed an intense creative activity that produced a repertoire of more than 450 compositions, intended to accompany the liturgical life of the diocese with remarkable artistic richness. Today, his work constitutes one of the most important musical collections preserved in the Canary Islands and represents an exceptional testimony to the cultural splendor experienced by the Cathedral of Santa Ana between the 17th and 18th centuries. Capilla de Santa Anna This is an ensemble specialized in the recovery and dissemination of historical musical heritage. The group is made up of sopranos Cristina Barceló and Magdalena Padilla, countertenor David Batista, tenor Daniel Marrero, viol player Yurena Darias, and harpsichordist Vicent Bru. The concert thus offers an opportunity to discover a musical heritage of enormous historical and artistic value.
