"This is a story about my life as an excuse to talk about life in my country since I was born in 1968, during the last, endless years of Francoism. I premiered this piece, a comic monologue, in 2014, at a time hit by the crisis that began in 2008, but also a time of enthusiasm, of popular mobilization, the greatest since the Transition. Today we are still under the effects of that crisis that cut back rights that have not been restored. And almost worse: that enthusiasm has almost disappeared. But the awareness that Spanish democracy, which until 2008 we mostly took for granted as valid, turns out to be insufficient – not democratic enough – is still very much alive. I have brought back this monologue, a stand-up comedy show really, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Teatro del Barrio, a cooperative opened in Lavapiés a decade ago, in the midst of that collective enthusiasm. And now I am back on the road with this story, with the intention, above all, of having fun together. Trusting, as well, that fun is a necessary ally of imagination." Alberto San Juan ... so, when summer is over we will have the tremendous pleasure of “disguising ourselves” for a weekend as Teatro del Barrio and having here two performances (Saturday and Sunday) by someone we have deeply admired for years. Tickets for this treat are available on our agenda website. Production: Cultura Mágica
