Aperitivo I: From Baroque Dance to the Avant-Garde

Monday, March 30 · 12:30
Price: More info

Details

Esther Esteban and Javier Lucío present “Aperitivo I” within the framework of the International Bach Festival (IBF), a programme that explores the evolution of dance from the Baroque to the avant‑garde. The repertoire combines the lyricism of Enrique Granados’s Spanish Dances and the rigour of Johann Sebastian Bach with the contemporary expressiveness of David Leisner. As the central axis, Astor Piazzolla’s suite Histoire du Tango traces the transformation of the genre throughout the 20th century, from its popular roots in Bordel 1900 to today’s concert language, uniting tradition and modernity in a chamber proposal of high artistic demands. Free admission until full capacity is reached. The programme by Ester Esteban and Javier Lucío offers a journey through the evolution of dance and instrumental lyricism. The proposal begins with the nationalism of Enrique Granados through his Spanish Dances No. 2 and No. 5, where folklore merges with refined chamber writing. This section connects with the Baroque rigour of Johann Sebastian Bach and his famous Siciliano from the Sonata BWV 1031, a piece defined by its balance and melodic clarity. The second part explores contemporary aesthetics with Dances in the Madhouse by David Leisner, before moving on to Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango. Through its four movements — Bordel 1900, Cafe 1930, Nightclub 1960 and Concert d’aujourd’hui — Piazzolla’s work synthesises the transformation of the genre from its popular roots to the avant‑garde of the 20th century, closing a programme that unites tradition and modernity.
