Sergej Krylov and Karel Mark Chichon lead a Russian-inspired program featuring Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a score of great expressive power, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, brought to the orchestra with all the color and imagination of Maurice Ravel. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Violinist Sergej Krylov returns to Gran Canaria for a program of Russian roots under the baton of Karel Mark Chichon. Krylov performs Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a kaleidoscope of emotions ranging from melancholy and irony to extreme virtuosity, set against the menacing backdrop of the Stalinist regime. The second part of the evening is devoted to Pictures at an Exhibition, a piece that Mussorgsky composed, inspired by the drawings and paintings of his late friend Viktor Hartmann, and which Maurice Ravel transcribed for orchestra, unfolding a work of enormous fantasy and brilliance.
