In the 2012 edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, the cycle "The Moderns" was programmed. It was an exploration of avant‑garde cinematographic art prior to the introduction of sound, conceived by our colleague Francisco Ponce. We now propose to complete that landmark with nine films made between 1929 and 1934, selected by Luis Miranda, the director of the festival. LONG LIVE LIBERTY (À nous la Liberté) France, 1931, 79´ DIRECTOR: René Clair SCREENPLAY: René Clair PRODUCTION: Frank Clifford CINEMATOGRAPHY: Georges Périnal (B&W) EDITING: René Le Hénaff MUSIC: Georges Auric CAST: Henri Marchand, Raymond Cordy, Rolla France, Paul Ollivier, Jacques Shelly, André Michaud. SYNOPSIS: Two convicts decide to escape, but when they are about to attain freedom they are discovered. One of them decides to sacrifice himself for the other, who will go on to become a major businessman thanks to an impressive and modern phonograph factory. When the second man finally manages to get out of prison, the two meet again. In collaboration with the DISA Foundation
