The Solo and Choreographic Competitions of MASDANZA are a benchmark event within the international contemporary dance scene, with numerous high-quality applications received every year to participate in the Official Section. The Solo and Choreographic Competitions of the 31st edition of MASDANZA have been consolidated as a reference event within the international contemporary dance panorama, both for creators and for professionals in the global dance ecosystem. Year after year, they are strengthened as a platform of extraordinary prestige, not only for the prizewinners but also for the participants, having boosted the international careers of young creators from all over the world thanks to the numerous regional, national and international collaborations maintained by the festival. This recognition, forged over the years, together with the continuous support that MASDANZA offers to artists, makes the competition a first-rate attraction for renowned choreographers from around the world to present their works every year. Founded in 1996 by dancer and choreographer Natalia Medina, the International Contemporary Dance Festival of the Canary Islands received the EFFE Quality Label from the European Festivals Association in January 2019, and has been nominated for the Award for Best European Dance Festival.
