The Gran Canaria Federation of Wind Bands presents the sixth edition of the Island Meeting of Wind Bands of Gran Canaria 2026 D. Ruperto Armas Reyes. The Band of the Gran Canaria Federation opens the season with a concert at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus under the baton of Vivian Gutiérrez Abreu and with the participation of timple player Domingo Rodríguez "El Colorao". The Gran Canaria Federation of Wind Bands, established in the year 2000 under the founding presidency of D. Ruperto Armas Reyes, was created with the aim of uniting efforts among the bands on the island, boosting their development and preserving a musical tradition with deep historical roots in Gran Canaria. Heir to a band movement that dates back to the 19th century, the federation works to promote, protect and dignify the teaching, practice and dissemination of wind band music, while always respecting the autonomy of each of the associations that comprise it. It currently brings together 17 musical ensembles distributed across different municipalities of the island, most of them with their own music schools, carrying out outstanding educational, social and cultural work. Among its most important projects is the Island Band Meeting, which has consolidated a space for togetherness, training and artistic exchange, as well as the Band of the Gran Canaria Federation, made up of musicians from the different federated bands. With around 935 federated musicians and a community of more than 4,600 people including students, teachers, board members, families and collaborators, the Federation is one of the main driving forces behind music education and cultural revitalisation in Gran Canaria, thanks also to the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the different town councils on the island.
