Opening Proclamation and Soprano Recital for Corpus Christi
Details
Arucas transforms its streets into a great ephemeral tapestry with the celebration of Corpus Christi 2026 The traditional Fiesta de la Alfombrada will bring together hundreds of people next 7 June in a unique showcase of art, heritage and citizen participation. Arucas will once again become, on Sunday 7 June, the setting for one of its most emblematic traditions with the celebration of Corpus Christi 2026 and the eagerly awaited Fiesta de la Alfombrada, an artistic and cultural expression that each year fills the historic centre of the town with colour. Documented since 1555, this celebration goes beyond the religious sphere to consolidate itself as an event with deep popular roots and as one of the city’s main heritage and tourist attractions. From the early hours of the morning, hundreds of people of all ages will take part in creating more than forty carpets along a route of over one kilometre. Salt, sawdust, flowers and natural earth will once again give shape to true works of ephemeral art made by collectives, institutions, associations and neighbourhood groups, in a display of creativity, tradition and shared effort that turns the streets of Arucas into a vast open-air museum. The day will culminate at 6:00 p.m. with the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which will include the Eucharist followed by the procession of the Blessed Sacrament. As the most moving moment, the parish church of San Juan Bautista will host the traditional shower of petals from the vault above the high altar, creating the last floral carpet of the celebration. The programme of events will begin on Thursday 4 June with the raising of the Corpus Christi flag at 12:00 noon and the proclamation, scheduled for 8:00 p.m., to be delivered by Reverend Luis María Guerra Suárez, accompanied by a recital by soprano Elena Cabrera Pérez. In addition, from 5 to 26 June, the exhibition “SYNERGÍA” by photographer Job Marrero Alemán can be visited at the Espacio Cultural La Mutua; its opening will take place on Friday 5 June at 11:00 a.m. #arucascultura #arucassanjuan26
