Bicacarera Cultivation and Gastronomy Workshop
Details
From the Departments of Environment and Parks and Gardens of the Arucas Town Council, the aim is to promote and publicize the cultivation of the Bicacarera, through a workshop given by the Canary flora nurseryman Isabel Hidalgo Delgado, which will be held next Friday, July 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the hall of the Tourist Office located at C/ León y Castillo nº 10, in Arucas. The Bicácaro Canarina canariensis, also called bicacarera, bicacarero or campanilla, is a climbing plant endemic to the Canary Islands that lives mainly in the laurel forests of the archipelago. It is one of the most emblematic plant species of the Canary Islands, considered by some authors as the "national flower" of the Islands. The first inhabitants considered it a delicacy, eagerly awaiting the harvesting months. Today, the bicácaro is still a valued wild fruit, with great potential yet to be discovered. The workshop will discuss its future as a seasonal fruit and its possibilities in the preparation of pastries, jams, chutneys, sauces and more. No registration is required, admission is free and you may attend until full capacity is reached.
