PRIMO is the pseudonym chosen by Naz Aparicio (Shonen bat, Have fun) for his solo acoustic project; but let’s not allow polysemy to lead us down the wrong paths. Primo’s lyrics are anything but naïve, and in his songs we won’t find any kind of simple innocence. Rather, if we are to prejudge, let’s do it by remembering that relative who, because of their distance and at the same time immediacy, appears before our childish self as an unfamiliar role model, a first doorway to feelings that not even our closest environment is capable of bringing to the surface. An tireless creator with three albums, a split with Anime rooms and two recent EPs that are absolutely gorgeous behind him (“Arder” in 2019 and “Seis canciones” in 2018), Primo’s music conveys intimacy, warmth, and a tenderness that is at times abrupt and raw, at times exquisitely crafted… but above all it overflows with talent, poetry and truth from every angle. His songs embrace you, leave their mark and manifest themselves in you before you even see it coming. For an immense minority, there are Primo songs that are already part of our lives. FAJARDO has developed a diction and a (non-)control of his own voice that is beyond any possible comparison. The musician from Fuerteventura has left everything else aside and is capable of surrendering his own body, placing words at the service of songs that pursue truth everywhere. From raw visceral strength to the deepest delicacy, Fajardo’s voice sheaths his own compositional stamp in a beautiful and necessary way. Like a riverbed for the stream, the pieces live from other complementary halves. These same foundations apply equally to his way of composing, with a metrical flow that feels as precise as it is natural, and structures in which he reveals and conceals according to what the narrative demands. Tension and sweetness, suspense and calm in songs that are as complex harmonically as they are easy on the listener’s perception (no small feat). Although measure and austerity may serve as a formal prelude, actually reaching the content is something else… There, a whole patina of emotions shines through. A rainbow that redeems solemnity, that spreads out from sincerity and that, little by little, shapes essential aesthetic forms. Those first steps he began to take around 2009 have led him to all kinds of stages inside and outside the Spanish state’s borders. From self-managed spaces, bookshops, theatres and venues, to renowned festivals such as Womad, A Tant Rêver Du Roi, Boreal, Monkey Week; with small incursions into other latitudes (Havana, Germany, Scotland, the United Kingdom).
