“Riscos de Colores” Exhibition Opening (Online Presentation)
Details
"Riscos de Colores" (Colorful Cliffs), the new exhibition by José Javier Melián, arrives at Casa Gourié with an artistic perspective on heritage and reuse Next Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m., the presentation of the exhibition "Riscos de Colores" by the artist José Javier Melián Santana will take place on social media. The exhibition can be visited at Casa Gourié, Arucas Municipal Museum, from June 12 to August 28, 2026. The show brings together around forty works in which painting and sculpture engage in dialogue through an original technique that combines acrylic on reused pallets, turning disposable materials into artistic supports full of personality. This exhibition arises from his close personal connection with the place, as he himself recalls: "...my early years were spent in my grandmothers’ houses, in those cobbled alleyways wedged between cubic houses and rooftops which, like a multicoloured puzzle, tumbled down over the city, offering endless viewpoints towards the neighbouring cliffs of San Juan and San Roque...". "Riscos de Colores" highlights the historical and cultural significance of one of the island’s oldest neighbourhoods and, at the same time, showcases the value of reusing materials, preserving in each piece the cracks, knots and imperfections of the wood as an essential part of its artistic language. In the words of the Councillor for Culture, "the exhibition brings, in these festive days and on the threshold of summer, the magic of light, colour, the feeling of the wind and the salt of the sea, as well as showcasing the popular and authentic architecture of this fishing neighbourhood, which evokes other Atlantic or Mediterranean enclaves such as Greece. It is an original exhibition that invites the viewer to discover the shapes of the buildings, the vegetation and the alleyways with no apparent way back, offering unusual perspectives". The exhibition can be visited during the usual summer opening hours, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. #arucascultura
