Opening Flag Raising – 544th Fiestas Mayores de Santiago de Gáldar
Details
Gáldar is ready to celebrate its 544th Major Festivities of St. James. The Department of Culture and Festivities of the Gáldar City Council, headed by Julio Mateo Castillo, is presenting a programme with nearly 100 events that will turn the month of July into a great celebration of our traditions, our identity and our history, in an edition especially inspired by the approaching Jacobean Holy Year 2027. A programme that looks to the future without abandoning its roots and that will symbolically begin next 1 July with the raising of the commemorative flag for the month of St. James on the Holy Year Mast. Concerts, pilgrimages, folk festivals, religious events, cultural activities, family-friendly proposals and large-scale shows make up a programme designed for all audiences. Among the most eagerly awaited moments are the Onion Festival, the opening speech delivered by the Gáldar journalist Victorio Pérez, the launch of the Gáldar Urban Fest with Danny Romero, Vius and De la Rose, the traditional Offering Pilgrimage, the Dances and Zambras, the Announcing Volcano, the Bajada de la Rama, the return to the stage of El Vega Life, the concert by Merche and the much-anticipated musical finale with Camela. An entire month to celebrate who we are, share our traditions and continue writing together the history of festivities that have been alive for more than five centuries.
