Inauguration of "La piel de Gran Canaria"
Details
This Friday at 7:00 p.m., opening of THE SKIN OF GRAN CANARIA, a tribute to those who sustain the island from its roots. From the Department of Culture of the Vega de San Mateo Town Council, you are invited to come to the La Caldereta Exhibition Hall, which will host a new artistic proposal that invites you to pause, observe, and recognize the value of those who, generation after generation, have built the identity of our island through the work of their hands. Photographer M. Elena Fernández Alemán presents "The Skin of Gran Canaria", an exhibition that portrays with great sensitivity livestock farmers, agricultural workers, shepherds, fishers, artisans, and so many people who keep our traditions and our rural world alive. Through portraits full of emotion and symbolism, this exhibition takes us away from the most superficial image of Gran Canaria and brings us closer to its essence: memory, rootedness, the dignity of work, and the deep bond between people and the land they inhabit. The exhibition also arises from a very personal experience of the artist, becoming a true visual and emotional archive that vindicates what often remains silent, yet continues to sustain our collective memory. This initiative is part of the project "The Skin of the Canary Islands", an artistic research journey that will travel throughout the archipelago to preserve the human, cultural, and emotional memory of our islands. Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture, José Déniz, highlights: "It is an honour to host the artistic project 'The Skin of Gran Canaria' at La Caldereta, located in a rural setting with a deep agricultural and livestock past, a reflection of that collective memory that this exhibition highlights and helps to preserve." Opening: Friday, 3 July Time: 7:00 p.m. Venue: La Caldereta Exhibition Hall – Vega de San Mateo The exhibition can be visited until 18 July, during the hall’s usual opening hours. An invitation to discover the most authentic Gran Canaria, the one written with effort, tradition, and roots.
