Latin Theatre Menu: A Unique Plautus
Details
The comedian and philologist Paco Pómez returns with a new installment of the “Classics with Humour” Cycle: “Latin Theatre Menu: a Unique Plautus”. The resounding success and popularity that Plautus achieved with his comedies throughout his life and after his death stand in stark contrast to the very scarce information we have about the biography of the comic playwright from Sarsina. Already in the 2nd century BC, only fifty years after his death, Plautus’ work was the object of intense study by Latin grammarians, who valued the purity of his Latin, the wit and elegance of his plots, and the vitality of his humour. * Performance not intended for children. More information in the “Ticket Office and Regulations” section of this website: https://auditorioalfredokraus.es/taquillas-normativa With Paco Pómez’s characteristic style, he will review the figure of Titus Maccius Plautus, the most important Latin comic playwright and creator of characters, situations and comic plots that continue to live on in universal comedy. A figure of humble origin who got tangled up in the world of popular theatre actors and grew to become a master of comedy and language. Drawing on the Greek theatre of New Comedy, he carried out a theatrical recycling with a long list of successes, to the point of becoming a model to be imitated… or even copied, without so much as asking.
