Imagine being at 3,400 meters above sea level, wiped out by the altitude, walking through the historic center of Cusco and suddenly stepping into a live music venue and finding yourself at an epic concert. That place is Casa Palacio, Juanjo Herrera’s venue, and it was one of the inspirations for creating Sala Faro when we were in Peru. There you get jazz, jam sessions, salsa nights, timba... And this Thursday… we’re bringing a little bit of Casa Palacio to the neighborhood. We were blown away by the idea of Juanjo being accompanied by local musicians, so we called up the finest talent in Las Palmas: versatile, fun-loving musicians. Juanjo Herrera on bass and vocals, Kervin Barreto on trumpet, Cristóbal Montesdeoca on piano and One Pérez on drums. Juanjo is coming with a repertoire of extreme timba and Latin jazz that may cause involuntary hip movements and make more than one person end up lifting their butt off the chair. PS: We’ll set up a dance area, just like in Casa Palacio! Timberoooooos, come closer! JAZZ EN EL BARRIO Jazz en el barrio aims to bring jazz to new audiences, to take it out of auditoriums and festivals and bring it home. To strip away elitism and pretentiousness and recover the joy of seeing something new, something different, so that we can enjoy live music beyond genres and labels. The posters were created like this: Ale Flores went out to take photos of La Isleta’s architecture, Dessy Gocheva intervened them incredibly with her illustrations, and Illya did the layout and color work.
