Arucas inaugurates in grand style the 35th Canarias Jazz & Más International Festival with Yellowjackets and Moisés P. Sánchez Plaza de San Juan will be this Friday the stage for an exceptional evening with two leading names in contemporary jazz as the festival gets underway. Over the first weekend the festival will tour Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Graciosa with around ten performances featuring international stars and Canarian talent. Arucas will once again become this Friday one of the great cultural focal points of the Canary Islands with the start of the 35th Canarias Jazz & Más International Festival. Plaza de San Juan will host, from 8:00 p.m., one of the most notable events of this edition with performances by the prestigious American quartet Yellowjackets and by pianist and composer Moisés P. Sánchez, who will present his project Where Light Begins. The city will be one of the first venues of a festival that, over its opening weekend, will bring the best music to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Graciosa with more than ten concerts featuring artists of recognized international prestige and emerging projects. The programme planned for Arucas brings together two benchmarks of the jazz scene. Yellowjackets, a band formed in 1980 and distinguished with two Grammy Awards and 17 nominations, comes to the Canary Islands after the recent release of their album Fasten Up. Made up of Russell Ferrante, Bob Mintzer, Will Kennedy and Dane Alderson, the group has kept its prestige intact thanks to a career marked by innovation, outstanding performance quality and sold-out tours all over the world. Sharing the bill with them will be Moisés P. Sánchez, one of the most outstanding figures in current European jazz. His show Where Light Begins brings together a trio with an international calling that combines creativity, virtuosity and an extraordinary communicative ability, offering a repertoire of original compositions.
