Presentation of the Arboriculture Best Practices Manual of Gran Canaria in Agaete

Agaete presents the Good Arboricultural Practices Manual of Gran Canaria. The Good Arboricultural Practices Manual of Gran Canaria arrives in Agaete this September 25 at 8:00 p.m., starting at the Huerto de Las Flores, one of the most unique spaces on the island due to its great plant heritage. The presentation is open to the general public and is part of the island-wide itinerary organized to bring this pioneering tool to the 21 municipalities and to bring citizens closer to scientific and ethical criteria that will transform the management of urban trees. The event will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Huerto de Las Flores, with a guided tour led by arborist Álvaro Mejías Cabeza, to demonstrate on site the practices in the management of trees in urban environments. This part will allow attendees to directly visualize technical concepts, making it easier to understand the content of the manual. Afterwards, the event will move to the Casa de Cultura de Agaete for the formal presentation of the document, which will be given by Álvaro Mejías Cabeza, a member of the team that drafted the manual, and Carlos Velázquez, from the Association for the Defense of the Tree and the Landscape. This presentation in Agaete is organized by ADAPA in collaboration with Bioagaete Cultural Solidario and the Department of Parks and Gardens of the Agaete City Council, and also has the institutional support of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. A tool to face climate change Gran Canaria has had, since March, the first Good Arboricultural Practices Manual, a tool valid for the 21 municipalities of the island promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria through the Department of Presidency and Sustainable Mobility, and its technical drafting has been carried out by ADAPA. The manual unifies criteria under a scientific and ethical approach adapted to the island’s reality, in order to correct bad practices such as drastic pruning or topping, and to build resilient cities. It represents the first joint effort between the Administration and citizens to systematically protect urban trees against
