György Vashegyi makes his debut at the head of the OFGC with a French-inspired program that looks towards Spain and Italy. Violinist Erno Kallai will perform Lalo’s brilliant Symphonie espagnole, while the OFGC’s principal viola, Adriana Ilieva, will take center stage in Berlioz’s Harold in Italy. The evening is completed by the overture to Le Roi d'Ys, also by Lalo. * Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. György Vashegyi makes his debut in the OFGC season leading a concert with a French accent and its gaze fixed on Spain and Italy. From Lalo we will hear the Overture to Le Roi d'Ys and the Symphonie espagnole, a work of dazzling virtuoso writing and impassioned melodic inspiration with a picturesque background, which will feature Erno Kallai as soloist. Hector Berlioz was one of the many Romantic composers drawn to Italy. The evocative power of the transalpine country, together with the deep imprint left by Lord Byron’s poem “Childe Harold”, inspired Berlioz to write his beautiful Harold in Italy, a symphony with solo viola composed for the legendary Paganini, who longed to shine with it by playing his Stradivarius viola.
