Framed within the brand "La Aldea Despensa de Sabores", the fair, organized by the Department of Primary Sector headed by Mayor Pedro Suárez, will offer two days that will combine outreach, tradition, tastings, and entertainment. “Once again we are celebrating the Tomato Fair with the aim of recognizing the effort of those who work in the fields every day and of highlighting a product that for generations has been part of the history, economy, and identity of our municipality,” said the mayor and councilor for the Primary Sector, Pedro Suárez. For his part, the general director of COAGRISAN, Marcelo Rodríguez, stated that “this initiative allows us to assert the pride of being a town that has fed half of Europe, and that we want to use to send a clear message about the importance of defending the primary sector and the fundamental role of POSEI in the outermost regions.” The program will start on Friday, October 23, with a technical conference at the Seniors’ Center, where three talks will be held on the properties of tomatoes, agricultural innovation, and the history of this crop in La Aldea. The day will conclude with a cocktail show by Tahiche Puig Déniz, a renowned Canarian bartender and general director of the Radical Bartending School. On Saturday, October 24, the fair will begin its second day in the area around La Alameda with a market of local products and children’s workshops. During the morning there will also be agri-food tastings, cocktail demonstrations by Tahiche Puig Déniz, and a show cooking session by María Eugenia Segura, a local co-founder of the restaurant Mestura. The day will also feature musical performances and the institutional ceremony for presenting awards to all the agricultural engineers of the municipality.
