Details

The Plaza de la Iglesia in Santa Brígida will host, next Friday, October 23, at 8:00 p.m., an event with Masdanza, the International Contemporary Dance Festival of the Canary Islands, which will bring together outstanding companies selected through the Acieloabierto Festival Network. The program of this touring festival will begin with “Obsequio”, a solo created and performed by Johann Pérez Viera for the Barcelona-based company La Cerda. With a soundtrack that brings together compositions by Ninos du Brasil, Johann Sebastian Bach, the Serenata Tropical Dante Orchestra and Thomas Adès, the piece recovers the ancestral idea of movement as an offering. Dance thus becomes a gift intended to delight the audience. Next, the Barcelona group The Concept will present “Nakama”, a creation by Miguel Álvarez and Javier Peláez (Tulio), who will share the stage with dancers Glenda Sánchez and Enmanuel Sardiñas. With music by Alexis de la O Joya and violin by Ana Fernández, this quartet takes its name from the Japanese term that defines that friend who becomes family. Conceived for public space, the piece stands out for its virtuosity and for the fusion of languages coming from urban dances and contemporary dance. The evening will close with “Pulsaciones x minuto”, by the young Madrid-based company Los Que Faltaban, part of 180. Choreographed by Javier Rodríguez, the piece will be performed by five dancers: Ángel Bogar, Ana Paula González, Daniela Hernández, Gerard Jover and Asia Paiola. To the rhythm of “Kanga-Roo” and “Lilac Wine”, by Jeff Buckley, the work delves into those moments that alter the heartbeat and suspend routine for a moment. This date with contemporary dance is part of the October cultural program designed by the Department of Culture headed by Avelina Fernández de Lara. Masdanza is directed by Natalia Medina Santana and produced by Qué Tal Estás S. L. The festival also has the support of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Turismo de Gran Canaria and Acción Cultural Española.
