Presentation of the book “Mujeres del Café de Agaete”
Details
The presentation of the book ‘Mujeres del Café de Agaete’ brings to a close a project that recognises the leading women behind a unique tradition in Agaete. After the success of the open-air exhibition that, for almost twelve months, has made it possible to learn about the stories, experiences and contributions of the women linked to coffee growing and coffee culture in the Agaete Valley, the project ‘Café de Mujer, Agaete’ takes a new step forward with the official launch of its publication. The event will take place on June 19, at 9:00 p.m., in Plaza de San Pedro in the Agaete Valley, in a gathering open to the public that will serve to share the results of research, the collection of testimonies and the recognition of the fundamental role that women have played in the history of coffee in Agaete. The exhibition, made up of panels installed outdoors, has brought to residents and visitors alike the experiences of several generations of women who have helped maintain one of the most unique agricultural traditions in Europe. Now, these stories are compiled in a book that preserves their memory and asserts their legacy for future generations. During the event, a summary video of the activity ‘Coffee Harvesting Experience on the Farm’ will also be screened. This initiative, held on May 15, 16 and 23, has allowed the public to learn first-hand about the tasks involved in growing and harvesting Agaete coffee. The activity involved nearly one hundred volunteers and the collaboration of six coffee farms in the Agaete Valley, whose commitment was essential to the development of this experience that brings people closer to the agricultural and cultural heritage of the municipality. The presentation of ‘Mujeres del Café de Agaete’ aims to be an opportunity to learn more about this publication, share experiences and celebrate the contribution of the women who, through their work and dedication, have been an essential part of the cultural and agricultural identity of the Agaete Valley.
